In a June 5th event at RMUTT’s campus near Bangkok, Finland University and RMUTT laid out their plans for building a sustainable model for university-level pedagogical competence in Thailand.
The importance of the co-operation to both countries was underlined by the attendance of the Finnish ambassador to Thailand and the deputy secretary general of the Thai government’s higher-education commission.
“This initiative is about promoting a community of pedagogical competence that will strengthen Thai higher education", says RMUTT President and Associate Professor Dr. Prasert Pinpathomrat, seen here at the opening of the Academy.
“This is a major milestone in the collaboration between Finland University and RMUTT,” says Finland University CEO Pekka Saavalainen. “Now we look forward to expanding our programme in Thailand and eventually working together with RMUTT on a model for bringing Finnish pedagogical expertise to Myanmar and Cambodia too.”
“The opening of the Smart Teacher Training Academy – the first of its kind in Thailand to focus on university pedagogy – is the output of productive collaboration between Finland University and Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi,” says RMUTT President and Associate Professor Dr. Prasert Pinpathomrat. “This initiative is about promoting a community of pedagogical competence that will strengthen Thai higher education, and help to produce the next generation of graduates that answer to the needs of Thailand’s economy."

The two parties are already working on expanding their scope of activities to RMUTT sister universities in other parts of Thailand. The RMUTT-network comprises nine universities that together enrol some 30,000 new students each year.
“We’re now establishing a systematic way of bringing RMUTTs’ teachers into our training programmes, with the aim of having at least two groups of 30 teachers starting each autumn semester,” says Finland University Key Account Manager Mirka Gustafsson. “RMUTT is a respected local university and this partnership is an excellent operating model for Finland University in Thailand. We’re really looking forward to continuing developing the relationship.”
